Summer Hydration Heroes

It’s that hot, groggy, sweaty, exhausting and oily time of the year! Oh how I love you, summer. My usually normal-combination (perhaps leaning more towards “dry”) skin becomes incredibly oily in the summer. Thanks to Soap & Glory’s “One Heck of a Blot” translucent face powder (post coming soon) and some key skincare favourites, my oily, summer skin has been kept at bay.

Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Spring Water ($22)

When a sales associate at a drugstore first suggested this to me, I tried to contain my laughter. I thought: “Is she seriously telling me that I should be buying water in an aerosol can?!” But really, this stuff is fantastic. It’s thermal water. Fancy schmancy thermal water. I opted for the largest size which is 300 ml. I spray this on twice a day, once with my morning skincare routine, and once at night, always before I apply my moisturizer. It’s so refreshing – and I find with me anyway, it reduces some of the redness in my face. I am on my second can now, and soon I will be purchasing my third!

Lush Eau Roma Toner Water ($9)

I wanted so badly to own a rose water facial toner. I have no idea why. I don’t even like the smell of roses. There is something just so elegant about applying a rose toner water, and this one is no exception. I am iffy about Lush products..I believe it’s all scent and no benefits. I haven’t had much luck with Lush products in the past (with the exception of their lip scrub, which is fantastic!) and so I thought, for $9, why not? I use this only in the mornings, it is very refreshing and hydrating. I haven’t noticed any “wow” effects from it, but it is definitely nice to use. I may or may not repurchase…I may opt for a rose water toner from a brand I like more.

Origins GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer ($32)

I had never really considered Origins prior to reading reviews from Gh0stparties and Nouvelledaily suggesting that this stuff was really the bomb. This particular moisturizer was insanely popular in the blogging sphere and so I decided to go to Sephora and check it out. This has a nice, light and gel-like texture and it smells absolutely amazing. It smells like citrus awesomeness in a little jar. It has caffeine and ginseng in it which really awakens the skin and gives a radiant glow while being really hydrating. I only use this in the morning, I think it’d be a little much for nighttime use as well.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream ($30)

I got this sample size from Sephora when I used up 100 of my points. This eye cream has a pink-ish hue and some slight shimmer which is supposed to brighten the under eye area. While this is true, I don’t find that this eye cream is particularly moisturizing. On days I use this, I like to use first another eye cream and then apply this one lightly on top. I wouldn’t purchase the full-size.

Mac Fix + Skin Refresher/Finishing Mist ($25)

This was a spontaneous buy when I was visiting the Mac counter for the second time in one week, and I have to say that this is one of my favourite hydrating mists of all time! I have tried the Caudalie Beauty Elixir and despite rave reviews, I was totally underwhelmed by the product. I love Mac Fix + a million times more, and the ingredients seem to be all pretty safe and good for skin (unlike all other Mac products). I spray this one after I apply my skin makeup and I spray it on again at the end of my makeup routine to give some dewiness to my complexion. This is a definite future re-purchase!

Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream ($30)

This little wonder is both an eye cream and an under eye primer, how can you go wrong with this purchase? It is definitely a nice, hydrating eye cream that creates a great smooth surface for concealer. I have re-purchased this product three times already, and only recently it has begun to slightly disappoint me. It only disappoints me when I use it with my new favourite under eye concealer, the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. Half-way through the day my under eye area looks dry and creasy, but in this eye cream’s defence…It works damn well with every other product I’ve ever used it with. I think after this jar is finished, I’ll opt for a new under eye cream. If you have any good suggestions, let me know!

So there are my favourite hydration products for a hot and miserable summer. Let us all melt to death and look gorgeous while doing so!
